Urm the Mad (1989) is Protector’s second full-length release and is regarded as one of the darkest and most atmospheric albums of German thrash. Inspired by Philippe Druillet’s comic of the same name, the record moves beyond conventional thrash aggression to embrace a heavier, doom-tinged and proto-death metal sound. With Martin Missy’s gritty vocals and a production steeped in a bleak, gray aura, the album feels both chaotic and imposing.
