Crown Lands - Apocalypse CD
Propably one of the best prog rock albums of the year!!!
Canadian progressive rock duo Crown Lands (Cody Bowles and Kevin Comeau) return with the most ambitious project of their career. Released via InsideOutMusic, "Apocalypse" is a monumental concept album that brings their signature sci-fi, symphonic prog-rock sound to its absolute peak. Serving as a direct narrative prequel to their critically acclaimed Fearless (2023), the album unfolds a dystopian space-opera storyline. Set against a backdrop of corporate greed and authoritarianism, the narrative is perfectly structured around the classic, traditional "sides" of a vinyl record.
Musically, the production by the legendary Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters) highlights the warm analog depth and vintage '70s arena-prog grandeur of the band. Clear influences from Rush, Led Zeppelin, and King Crimson are channeled into a fresh, modern, and high-energy delivery. Bowles’ soaring, gravity-defying vocals and tribal woodwinds blend seamlessly with Comeau’s heavy Oberheim synths, driving basslines, and intricate guitar work. The album balances punchy, dynamic rock tracks (like "Foot Soldiers of the Syndicate" and "Blackstar") on the front end, before culminating in a breathtaking, 19-minute self-titled epic suite ("Apocalypse") that is bound to become a modern prog-rock landmark.
A masterful concept album that honors the golden era of progressive rock while firmly pushing it into the future.
